1. Choose issues of importance to us

Career preparation

We agreed that we have little “formal and organized” assistance for students and postdocs who are seeking employment.
We will start to address us by asking a representative of the career office to come and talk with us (the faculty group) about resources there.
We will plan an aluimni career day at which graduates will come and talk about their careers.

Curriculum

There was broad support for expanding the coursework options. We will explore the appropriateness of courses available on campus in business, etc. We had some support for audits and we decided to consider mini-courses including seminar series. The possibility of offering these in the evenings seemed attractive as there is less pressure to be in the lab in the evening.
We will explore the facilities of the writing center.
We talked about different models for rotations (3 labs / semester, have a desk, go to group meetings only??? Or more extensive participation??? 1st semester or 2 semesters???). We will visit this topic again.
