Chemical Biology at Stony Brook
Chemical Biology at Stony Brook
This NIH-funded Chemical Biology Training Program aims to provide graduate students with a more intensive training in biology and biochemistry than a typical chemistry degree or a more intensive training in chemistry than a typical biology/biochemistry degree to help them pursue their chosen research studies in this field. After rotations, graduate students select a primary advisor and a co-advisor. Graduate students take a three course sequence: Graduate Biochemistry/Biomolecular Structure and Analysis, Chemical Biology I, and Chemical Biology II, in their first three semesters. The remaining choice of courses depends on what is most relevant to the student’s research project. All students participate in a student seminar course. This course meets weekly for seminars by graduate students on the progress of their research and in depth literature presentations in selected current topics. There is an annual retreat with the Institute of Chemical Biology and Drug Discovery (ICB&DD) at which all students present posters of their research and distinguished senior scientists from other institutions give oral presentations.
