In our laboratory, we are interested in understanding the structural and morphological development at both molecular and nanoscopic levels during polymer processing in real time. The focus of our research projects is the design, fabrication, characterization and applications of nanostructured soft condensed materials, such as fibers (one-dimensional orientation), films (two-dimensional orientation) and bulk material systems (three-dimensional orientation) to improve health, environment and energy efficiency.
Together with Prof. Benjamin Chu, we have recently developed the breakthrough nanofibrous membrane technology, which enables water treatment systems to process more water to a higher standard, at significantly lower energy and costs. The technology produces membranes that are highly porous yet have strong structural integrity. The technology may be on course to revolutionize the water purification industry
