NEWSLETTER QUESTIONNAIRE
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
Dear Reader,
We are seeking your views on the distribution and format of this Newsletter.
1. Firstly, we would like to know if you wish to be REMOVED from the circulation list for
future editions of this newsletter.
IF YOU DO NOT WISH TO RECEIVE COPIES OF THIS NEWSLETTER IN THE FUTURE
PLEASE INFORM Rebecca Shaw, preferably by e-mail at Dave.Garner@Manchester.ac.uk
2. For the last two issues of this Newsletter we have increased the circulation to some 700 members of the community of Biological Inorganic Chemists worldwide. This was a deliberate action to try and improve the "networking" of our community and, for t
he future, we could make further such changes and we would value your opinions and assistance.
If you know of others who would wish to receive this Newsletter please inform us or ask them to contact us, preferably by e-mail to Rebecca Shaw at: Dave.Garner@Manchester.ac.uk
3. We have deliberately truncated this version of the Newsletter, providing brief descriptions of information and forthcoming meetings - together with the addresses of the relevant individuals whom you should contact for further information - rather than
continuing to produce a reasonably comprehensive version of the Newsletter which (we felt) was becoming too long.
However, we would value your views on the style of future Newsletters.
PLEASE INDICATE WHICH OF THE FOLLOWING OPTIONS YOU WOULD PREFER:
(I) I would prefer to receive a reasonably comprehensive version of the
Newsletter;
(II) I would prefer to receive a truncated version of the Newsletter;
(III) I would prefer to receive an alternative version to that specified in (I)
or (II) - PLEASE GIVE DETAILS.
We think that a truly global Newsletter, linked to relevant sites on the World Wide Web, would be of value to scientists at all levels in our field. This activity is particularly relevant to SBIC.
As a parallel to the establishment of SBIC itself, the global Newsletter could evolve from this newsletter which is produced as one of the current activities of the METBIO Programme of the European Science Foundation. Alternatively, SBIC could seek to es
tablish a new (but complementary) Newsletter. The METBIO Programme of the ESF will end in July 1998 and this Newsletter will cease production then. Therefore, our community needs to decide whether such a Newsletter should continue beyond July 1998 and,
if so, on the type of newsletter and the methods of production and distribution. Once these decisions are clear, we can plan accordingly.
Correspondents drawn from different regions of the world will be essential for the success of the global Newsletter; an editor can only be effective if material is produced regularly by a wide variety of sources.
THEREFORE YOUR VIEWS ON THE FOLLOWING WOULD BE APPRECIATED:
(I) I recommend that a new global Newsletter be started by SBIC;
(II) I recommend that the present ESF Newsletter evolves to become a global
Newsletter for our community;
(III) I am prepared to be a correspondent for the global Newsletter.
ANY OTHER COMMENTS RELATED TO THESE ISSUES WOULD BE GREATLY
APPRECIATED.
